Dry Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1 large egg
- 3/4 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional for added flavor)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dry Mix: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
- Mix the Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, beat the egg and milk together. Add vanilla extract if desired.
- Combine Wet and Dry: Gradually pour the wet mixture into the dry ingredients, stirring until the batter is smooth. The consistency should resemble pancake batter.
- Heat the Oil: In a deep skillet or frying pan, heat about 2 inches of oil to 375°F (190°C).
- Create the Funnel Cake: Pour the batter into a funnel, squeeze bottle, or piping bag. While holding it over the hot oil, release the batter in a circular motion to create a lacy pattern.
- Fry to Perfection: Cook for about 1-2 minutes on each side, or until golden brown.
- Drain and Serve: Remove the funnel cake with tongs and place it on paper towels to drain excess oil. Dust generously with powdered sugar and serve warm.
Notes
- Consistency is Key: If your batter feels too thick, add a splash of milk. If it’s too thin, sprinkle in a bit more flour.
- Oil Temperature Matters: Use a thermometer to keep the oil at a steady 375°F for the perfect crisp texture.
- Experiment with Toppings: Try drizzling chocolate syrup, caramel, or adding fresh fruits for an extra touch of sweetness.
